Getting to Nungubane
Getting to Nungubane is straightforward. You can self-drive, book a private road transfer or a charter flight. If you elect to book a private road transfer or a charter flight, we can combine these travel arrangements with your accommodation reservation. Private road transfers can be arranged from either OR Tambo or Lanseria International Airports, Johannesburg or Pretoria precincts. Charter flights can be arranged from either OR Tambo or Lanseria International Airports to the Welgevonden Game Reserve Main Airstrip. Road travel time : 3 hrs 30 minutes one way. Flight time : 40 minutes one way.
Self Drive Option:

- Take the N1 North to Polokwane
- At the Kranskop Toll Gate (+- 175 km from Johannesburg) take the R33 left off ramp to Modimolle.
- Continue on the R33 through Modimolle until you reach the town of Vaalwater (63km from Modimolle)
- When passing through Vaalwater , please call the lodge on either 014 755 4928 or 087 237 9700 so that we can arrange to pick you up from the Welgevonden West Gate.
- Continue on the R517 through Vaalwater. After 27km you will pass the Welgevonden Game Reserve Main Gate on your left. Continue on the R517 for another 21 km until you reach the signs for Welgevonden West Gate and Schoongelegen Road – the turn off is well signposted.
- Turn left onto the Schoongelegen gravel road and show your driver’s license at the security check point.
- Continue for another 17km until you reach Welgevonden West Gate on your left – it is well signposted.
- On entering the West Gate, you will be asked to complete a Gate Pass. Retain the top copy and hand it to the Nungubane representative who will meet you on arrival at the West Gate and transfer you to the Lodge. On departure the Gate Pass will be stamped and signed by our representative for presentation on departure at the West Gate.
- There is secure parking at the West Gate
- Scheduled pick up time from the West Gate is at 12:30 hrs. Unscheduled / late transfers will incur a service fee of ZAR 550.00 per transfer.
