Proclaimed as a national Protected Area, Welgevonden lies within the UNESCO Waterberg Biosphere Reserve: the only savannah biosphere reserve in southern Africa.
Renowned for its pioneering conservation and research initiatives, Welgevonden Game Reserve is one of the most accessible, premier, malaria-free, big five wilderness reserves in the country. Its landscapes are varied and extremely beautiful, with a range of habitats. There are over 5 500 animals in the reserve, with 65 species, and 320 recorded bird species.
